Slopes, gravel driveways and tight garages are classic places for a slow tip-over, and a cruiser like the Honda Rebel is no exception. Honda Rebel crash bars are the simplest way to keep a drop from becoming an expensive repair, and the right set depends on which Rebel you ride.
Which Rebel Do You Have?
Honda's Rebel family covers very different bikes, and crash bars are not interchangeable between them:
- Rebel 300: a 286cc single-cylinder engine. The current generation arrived for the 2017 model year.
- Rebel 500: a 471cc parallel twin, launched alongside the 300 for 2017.
- Rebel 1100: launched for the 2021 model year with a 1,084cc parallel twin derived from the Africa Twin. It has been offered with a manual gearbox or Honda's DCT automatic from the start.
The Rebel 300 and 500 share the same chassis, so many parts fit both. The Rebel 1100 is a different, larger motorcycle.
Why Fit Crash Bars on a Rebel?
On a cruiser, a low-speed fall usually lands on the side of the engine, the footpegs and the controls. Crash bars, also called engine guards, sit in front of and around the engine and take that first contact. They can help protect:
- the engine side covers;
- the front of the engine and the frame downtubes;
- bodywork and the tank sides in a tip-over.
They also give a solid point to lift the bike from after a drop. If you're weighing crash bars against lighter protection, see our crash bars vs frame sliders guide.

- Put the bike on a level surface and keep it upright while you work, with a helper if needed.
- Loosely fit all bolts first, check alignment and clearance, then tighten.
- Use a torque wrench and the values from your service manual for frame bolts.
- Check that the bars don't touch your boots or the controls, and re-check bolt tightness after the first ride.
