Description

The Yamaha MT-07 is one of the best-selling middleweight naked bikes on the market, and for good reason. But the same exposed chassis that gives the MT-07 its aggressive street-fighter look also means there's very little between the ground and your most expensive mechanical components when the bike goes down. A low-speed tip-over in a parking lot, a slide on a wet roundabout, a fumbled stop on loose gravel: any of these puts the fork lowers, wheel hubs, brake calipers, and surrounding bodywork in direct contact with pavement. The repair bill from even a minor drop adds up fast once you start pricing OEM fork sliders, caliper brackets, and rim refinishing.

These front and rear axle crash protectors for the Yamaha MT-07 and FZ-07 mount directly onto the front fork axle and rear swingarm axle, placing a sacrificial buffer at the exact points where the bike contacts the ground in a fall. They absorb and redirect impact energy before it reaches the components you can't afford to replace after every parking lot incident.

How Axle Crash Protectors Protect Your Yamaha MT-07

Axle crash protectors sit at the outermost points of the wheel axles, which is exactly where the motorcycle hits the ground first in a low-speed tip-over or slide. This positioning means the protectors take the initial impact before the fork sliders, brake caliper, caliper bracket, or rim edge make contact with the pavement.

Each unit features a rounded slider end that contacts the ground first. The rounded profile serves two purposes. It prevents the bike from catching on the pavement and flipping during a slide, which can turn a cosmetic tip-over into structural frame damage. And it keeps all metal components clear of the ground surface, so the parts that actually cost serious money to replace never touch asphalt.

On the MT-07 specifically, the front fork lowers and the brake caliper sit very close to the ground contact point during a fall. Without axle protectors, even a slow-speed drop from a standstill can gouge the fork slider surface, crack a caliper ear, or curb-rash the rim edge. A set of fork sliders alone from Yamaha runs well over what these protectors cost, before labor. The math on this one is straightforward.

Direct Fit for Yamaha MT-07 and FZ-07 All Generations 2014 to 2023

These crash protectors are designed specifically for the Yamaha MT-07 (known as the FZ-07 in the US market from 2014 to 2017) across all model years and generations:

The first generation MT-07 / FZ-07 (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) uses the same axle dimensions and mounting configuration as the second generation (2018, 2019, 2020) and third generation (2021, 2022, 2023), so one set of protectors covers the full production run. Whether you're riding an early FZ-07 with the round headlight or a 2023 MT-07 with the updated front end, the fitment is identical because the front and rear axle hardware hasn't changed across generations.

The protectors install using the existing axle hardware with no drilling, no cutting, and no permanent modification to the frame or swingarm. You don't need to source adapter brackets or spacers. Everything bolts directly onto the OEM axle using the supplied mounting hardware.

Installation on Yamaha MT-07 FZ-07

Installation requires only basic hand tools and can be completed without removing major components. Loosen and remove the front axle pinch bolts and slide out the front axle. Thread the front axle protector onto each end of the axle, then reinstall the axle and torque pinch bolts to the factory specification. Loosen and remove the rear axle nut and slide out the rear axle. Thread the rear axle protectors onto each end of the rear axle, then reinstall the axle and tighten the axle nut to the factory specification. Check that all protectors spin freely and do not contact the fork legs, swingarm, or brake caliper.

Total install time is about 30 to 45 minutes. Because the protectors use the factory axle as their mounting point, removing them returns the bike to completely stock condition.

Construction and Finish

The protectors are built from high-density polymer over an aluminum core, combining impact absorption with structural rigidity. The polymer outer shell absorbs energy on impact and resists abrasion across pavement, while the aluminum inner structure prevents the protector from compressing under load and transferring force to the axle.

The matte black finish integrates cleanly with the MT-07's dark frame, engine covers, and wheel hubs. All four protectors are included in the set, covering both the front and rear axles in a single purchase.
